Pale straw-yellow. On the nose, this wine shows tropical fruits like mango/melon, also apricot, pear, and white peach. Very fresh and flowery, it also has a spicy hint of green olives. Richly textured and medium bodied, it has a long spicy finish.

Allocation: 12 / 24 (Wine Club)        54% Grenache, 35% Syrah , 11% Mourvedre
Medium-full, soft and round on the palate, with authoritative flavors echoing the attractive bouquet. Soft, smooth, chocolatey tannins perfectly coated with rich, concentrated black-raspberry fruit. The big surprise comes at the finish, with an explosive display of spicy, complex aromatic fireworks and flavors that stain you palate for minutes.

Allocation: 6 / 12 (Wine Club)                100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Detailed, like fine jewelry. Spice. Dry spice like the smell from an old spice cabinet - paprika, cardamon.  The epitome of elegance. Certainly a big wine demonstrating muscle and intensity with excellent structure and balance. Tastes light and vibrant with unity in its elements. Amazing length. Medium-full bodied, it should age for many decades.

1997 Merlot                                                                       $35.00 retail price
Allocation: 6 / 12 (Wine Club)
75% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Franc, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon
Expressing to perfection the untamed Renaissance mountain terroir, the wine is dark, deep, concentrated, and has lots of flavor.  This vintage is reminiscent of our 1993, with riper tannins, better balance, and smoother texture.  Uncork it tonight with a roast rack of lamb or beef stew (use one bottle in the sauce), or let it acquire even more complexity and harmony with more bottle age – up to ten years or so.

2006 Carte D’Or                                                              $20.00 retail price
52% Sauvignon Blanc, 48% Semillon
Allocation: 12 / 24 (Wine Club)
Very elegant and fairly lean – a true dinner wine with a nice underlying honeyed richness.  Appreciable purity of citrus flavors and very good balance.  A long finish which is strongly mineral.  Pronounced acidity without sharpness.

2004 Syrah “Estate”        REDS ONLY OPTION         $35.00 retail price
89% Syrah, 6%Cabernet Sauvignon, 4%Grenache, 1% Mourvedre
Allocation: 6 / 12 (Wine Club)
Deep, dark, and dense – look at the color! Meaty, hearty, and peppery. Very focused and exceptionally elegant for Syrah. Wonderful looooooong peppery finish. Very classically varietal and a bit more approachable than usual for a newly released Renaissance Syrah. Will age well and develop further for 15+ years.

54% Grenache, 26% Mourvedre, 20% Syrah
Allocation: 6 / 12 (Wine Club)
Aromatically, very intense, complex brambly fruit with blackberry and raspberry notes. Bright, vibrant, and vigorous on the palate with a very long spicy, refreshing finish; somewhat reminiscent of a southern Rhone wine, like Chateauneuf. Very pure, richly textured and well structured, with ripe, refined tannins. Enjoyable now, will age gracefully for at least 5-6 more years.

1991 Sauvignon Blanc Late Harvest                           $50.00 retail price
100% Sauvignon Blanc
Allocation: 6 / 12 (Wine Club)
The wine shows a beautiful medium yellow-gold color.  Its nose hints at fresh tropical fruit with nuances of dried apricot.  On the palate this Sauvignon blanc has a luxurious, unctuous texture and a massive, concentrated body, elegantly balanced acidity. Here too, ripe fruit, honey, spices, and a very long finish.

1999 “Le Provençal”        REDS ONLY OPTION     $35.00 retail price
51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 49% Syrah
Allocation: 6 / 12 (Wine Club)
Version of this Cabernet-Syrah blend came out significantly more harmonious and elegant, with riper fruit and tannins than its predecessor. This wine now joins the “Reserve Level” class and can be seen as a symbol of our “new style” of wines. Keeping the concentration and depth of the old, with additional refinement, balance, and early appeal.

2004 Roussanne                                                           $35.00 retail price
100% Roussanne
Allocation: 6 / 12 (Wine Club)
Very ripe and slightly pungent now showing a fascinating combination of honeyed, heavy tropical fruit like over-ripe papaya and strong herbal/vegetal notes. Very rich, made in an old-fashioned oxidative style, which will reward long aging. Low acidity which makes it feel heavier and more ponderous than some of the previous vintages. The merest hint of vanilla – taste of rhubarb and tropical fruit, with nicely rounded oak and a herbal spicey side.

A truly memorable and remarkable nose with amazing complexity. Deep, rich and elegant; this is a wine to sip and savour, to meditate on. It’s lean, very focused, and minerally, at the same time brimming with ripe fruit and underlying richness; the more attention you give it, the more it opens up and reveals itself to you. Unusually, bold and elegant simultaneously, it has a distinct essence of refined fruit. Those who enjoy Gideon’s reds are going to fall in love with this wine. Possible lifespan may be in the 25-30 year range.

1984 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 375 ml            $35.00 retail price
Allocation: 6 / 12 (Wine Club)
A wine of unique character. The epitome of Karl Werner’s style of winemaking: huge body, massive extraction and concentration of flavors, monumental proportions and structure. Evolving at a glacier’s pace, this wine will probably still be drinking well in a couple of decades. Have it with a beef roast or with aged cheese at the end of a fine dinner. Red brick in color, this flavorful beauty is at its height of maturity. Intense aromas of cedar, violets and earthy nuances play upon your palate. A very structured wine with soft texture and masculine tannins. This wine is drinking wonderfully now - open and decant two hours before serving.
